I have to admit that with so many other options in the Gables, I have only been to John Martin's one other time before this last time. I have a monthly book club and we usually meet at Books & Books. This time when we went, there was an event going on and we were unable to meet there so we walked over to John Martin's. They were incredibly accommodating and sat our party right away. They had no problems giving us separate checks and the Pinot Grigio was actually pretty good (good wine at a pub always surprises me)! Our waiter was very nice and service was very efficient. I had the Philly Cheesesteak and although the steak was a bit too thick for my taste, it was still good. Overall it was a very nice experience, especially since it was a last minute change of plans. I will say, this was at noon on a Saturday so they were not busy - not at all. We've decided to make this our new book club meeting place for the summer, since sitting outside at Books & Books in the sweltering heat can be a bit uncomfortable.

First off, their Pub Burger is amazing, albeit a bit over-priced ($14!), even if it is on the Miracle Mile strip. Secondly for an Irish themed pub they don't have an impressive beer selection, nothing craft of which to speak of either. And lastly its always empty (at least when I go). So if you're looking for a low-key spot away from the hustle and bustle of Miami this is the place, if you're looking for a lively atmosphere I'd shy away from here

Service/ Management: First off, we enter the restaurant through the front and there's no one to guide us as to what the hell to do. I'm there chilling for 5 minutes waiting for someone to notice that i'm waiting to be seated. Finally, my sister decided that we should just self seat.. so we did. We ended up meeting three different servers within the first 10 minutes. It's obvious their management is SLACKING. They don't have a system for tables, it seems that it's a free for all. Service was slow as hell...The server was a nice girl... it's a Tuesday night... wasn't packed at all...service was rather slow... Food: I was actually really looking forward to eating here, trying some authentic Irish food. I ordered off the Coral Gables Restaurant Week menu. I ordered: - Irish Potato Soup: The soup was good. It was a very finely pureed soup. You could tell the potatoes were pureed as part of the broth. Nothing out of this world, but it was a nice soup. 3 out 5. - Homemade Meatloaf with Mashed Potato, Peas, Carrots and Gravy: This was a disappointment. Right off the bat, it LOOKED like hospital food lol... The meatloaf had a decent flavor 3 out of 5, average. The mashed potatoes, peas and carrots were blah, 1 or 2 stars.. -Irish Whiskey Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce and Whipped Cream: I find that not many places to bread pudding well. This bread pudding was average, it is better than some I've had, but I wouldn't give it more than a 3 out of 5. Also: - Award Winning Pub Burger with sweet potato fries: The burger was the best thing tonight. It was actually very good. Awesome flavors, super juicy, very strong sharp cheddar cheese. 4 out of 5... maybe even 5 out of 5??..... - Homemade Bailey's ice cream: Bailey's ice cream was a nice touch. It wasn't very sweet and it did have chocolate shavings in it. 3/4 out of 5. I wouldn't come back though.... except for the burger, IF i happen to be in the area... However, there are so many other restaurants in the area that are tried and true that I really don't see a reason to come back. Plus, the service really sucked. You're a restaurant in the Gables, right on Miracle Mile... I was actually surprised by how much their service and management sucked...So with average food and sloppy service... 2 out of 5..

Sometimes the ease and convenience of this place for post-theatre drinks and food makes me forget how LOUD it can be, with no hope of reprieve. There's definitely no reason why karaoke night needs to be as painful as a tooth extraction. The place is so loud on karaoke nights, it is nearly impossible to speak to people at your same table, regardless of where in the restaurant you are seated. That being said, the Chicken Caesar Salad is good, if the dressing is a little anchovy-heavy. The Bangers and Mash are great, though little underseasoned. They make an excellent Moscow Mule, too! The French onion soup is rumored to be outstanding as well, as it was recommended by a friend, as is the Shepherd's Pie.

Food is average. To be fair I only tried the fish and chips, which comes with a tiny serving of peas. The order came out freshly fried and piping hot. I liked the fish, it was flaky inside with a nice crispy thin coating. The fries were thick cut but tasted like ones I get in a cafeteria, nothing special. For $14 at an Irish pub and not a Disney park, I expect better quality. Our server was nice and friendly. The nearby garage parking is very convenient, street parking can be hard to find.

I was a bit in a sullen mood, but a visit to John Martin's easily took care of that. The ambiance is so jovial! There was a live band, an authentic Irish band, playing Irish tunes and other classics. People were tapping, and some were dancing. My friend and I sat in the balcony area and had a great view of the patrons and the band. We browsed the menu and choose our dinner entrees. Our waiter cheerfully took down our orders and we enjoyed the music in the meantime. My friend got the bangers and mash, which I thought was only a British dish. I got John Martin's signature dish, the meatloaf. It was very flavorful, especially the gravy, and quite filling. Apparently, it's one of the most popular dishes. My friend enjoyed his bangers and mash. We enjoyed everything about our experience. Even the decor is pretty, with dark wood, and an area that has a fireplace and flowered wallpaper, very cozy and homey. The dessert menu looked pretty good, and we could not resist. Surprisingly, my friend got chocolate cake, which is odd, as he does not like chocolate. I got the Irish bread pudding, which is made in-house. It was delicious and moist, though not overwhelmingly sweet. The service throughout was friendly. We sat around for a while listening to the music and we were never rushed out, even though we had already paid. We had a good time and then headed to our screening of The Wall at the Actors' Playhouse. We asked ourselves why we don't come here more often and have considered changing that. It's safe to say we will be back!

This is my second visit to this bar. This time was a combination birthday party and going away party. Fun times. Staff is friendly and the waiter our group had worked his a** off. He was great and didn't miss a beat. Live music was a violinist playing Irish music. Great atmosphere but can get loud at times.

What a joke! I came here with a friend at around 10:15 p.m. on St. Patrick's Day for a Guinness or maybe 2. Based on past experiences at John Martin's and other Irish places, I was expecting to see a street full of people dressed in green as I approached, bartenders under the stars serving up cold pints, and lots of traditional Irish music or at least an attempt at doing it up as big as possible with Irish spirit for the biggest Irish themed holiday of the year. Sadly, as we approached, I saw no partiers reveling in the street, no bartenders in the street out front or in back of this bar. We made our way inside, and the place was jam packed, certainly over capacity. The bar was crowded 2 people deep along the entire length, and rather than Irish or Celtic music, the DJ was spinning LATIN tunes and people were friggin' SALSA DANCING! Mind you, John Martin's bills itself as a traditional Irish pub, and has worked hard to make their establishment look and feel as traditionally Irish as possible both inside and out, but the DJ was spinning salsa music on St. Paddy's day! After about 5 minutes I finally got my Guinness. As we waded through the crowds, I was bumped into at least a few times by couples trying to salsa dance (in this packed Irish pub on St. Paddy's Day) but I held my beer out as far as I could so they got drenched in it rather than I. I finished my Guinness, and satisfied that I'd done right by my heritage by at least trying to have a Guinness in an Irish pub, we left and made our way to another non-Irish bar down the street.....Where they were actually playing Celtic music and even some tunes featuring bagpipes!

Came in real quick after the Yelpies for a night cap. I was only there for about 30 mins..... Walked in intrigued by the live music, which I can always appreciate, but was quickly disappointed by the fact that we had to wait to be seated and the hostess was no where to be found. Ok, fine it's late, lots of locals, I get it, but c'mon man, my feet hurt lol... Finally sat down and ordered a few drinks. Service was nice, our server was really sweet. Ordered the fried calamari. They looked good but we're not :0/. They were flavorless and over cooked. Very chewy texture and the sauce they served it with was mutually tasteless. How could marinara be tasteless? Tried to make it better with lemon and that didn't work. With all this, I still would give them another try but only if I am in the area. Hey I believe in second chances.

John Martin's is an institution on Miracle Mile. It is supposed to be one of the better Irish Pubs in town and boasts great food and even better service. So, what happened....? The menu is simple and affordable. It has a bit of something for everyone and from all walks of life. I had high hopes for what should be a staple, The Corned Beef Hash and Eggs. As described it should have two poached eggs and creamy hollandaise sauce. It sure was a lot different. I had two practically hard boiled eggs with what looked like curdled yellow sauce. It was not looking good. I asked for coffee and rye toast to accompany my breakfast, and that was pretty much the only thing that sat well with me. Strike one... Brunch service is supposed to start at 11:30 on Sunday. This means everyone should be ready, alert, and awake. What greeted me was a half asleep bushy haired kid with unlaced shoes (no socks) and an attitude to match. Mind you, I was their first customer of the day and no one was ready. Strike two... I asked my "server/waiter/sleepyhead" several times for coffee, sauce, butter, etc... Things that a good wait staff anticipates a customer would need. I lost track of how many times I had to call these things to his attention. Strike three... I've been to John Martin's before. I have had lunch and dinner numerous times, not to mention their St. Patrick's Day parties are legendary. I've had drinks with friends, wobbled away a few times, and have done crawl or two up and down Miracle Mile. But, for the life of me, I cannot explain what happened on Sunday. This review will have two stars. I will come back soon and try again. Hopefully the experience will improve and so will the review.....

We have been going to John Martins for years, and loved it so much that we decided to have our wedding after-party here. It was amazing! Mr. Martin (the owner) was great to work with, gave us a great deal for a group of 50 or so people, and allowed us to fill up a good portion of the bar so we could have it to ourselves. The bartenders were so nice, as well. Everyone had an INCREDIBLE time, and raved about it the next morning. Thanks for the great memory!

This place never disappoints! We went to grab a drink before the Rocky Horror picture show at Actor's Playhouse. There was great live music, cheap drinks and a nice spot at the bar waiting for us. This place is just consistence personified.

3.5 stars. We were watching an old Cheers episode at home and it didn't even finish before we had the strong desire to hit John Martins for happy hour and a burger. Go figure, this place has always reminded me of Cheers. If you come here expecting a gourmet and fancy experience, go elsewhere. You come here for their juicy, thick burgers and beer. I can't speak for much else on their menu because I've really always just come for burgers. They are consistent and served with potato wedges, both arrived piping hot. Happy hour is until 8 I believe, and beers are 2 for 1.

Ducked in to meet some long time friends visiting from outta town and it was a fine time, here's why: * Festive and happy holiday energy abounds! * Excellent service. * Attractive servers * Located on Miracle Mile in gorgeous Coral Gables. * Better-than-fairly priced for the neighborhood. * Irish Pubs ROCK! * Somebody else bought! * Public Parking garage a block North My last visit here was during St. Patrick's Day and I didn't get to see the inside of the place because it was too crowded. Sad face. I shall be back to try the fare soon and will advise. Cabeza OUT!

This is a large establishment in a great location on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables. The bar area, where we sat, is pretty dark as very little light comes in from the street. I have been here several times. Always meeting someone and never my choice. Food and service has never been great. Atmosphere is worse. So, when my dad chose this place to meet last weekend, I begged him to choose somewhere else but, in the end, I gave in. Service = horrible. The kid was clueless and slow. At one point my dad reminded the kid of his lemon for the ice tea, as he had naturally forgotten despite the 3 reminders. The kid literally walked with a slice of lemon in hand, and dropped it inside my dad's ice tea. I realize this is not a fine dining experience but c'mon! Food = just okay. My nephew's pasta with meatballs was pretty bad, although my turkey burger was okay. It did take almost 45 minutes to get our food. I probably will not be returning... I hope.

Never come down this way, but here to see a show. Food was pretty good. Our waitor kept in touch which is always nice. Atmosphere is typical irish pub. Overall, if i was in the neighborhood, i would come by again.

Went there our last night of vacation with family. Not a good choice! The service was severely lacking. We were placed in a separate dining room and forgotten about more than once. The server did not know very much about the menu at all. Once we finally received the food, no one was impressed. Dry shepherd's pie, weird meatloaf, tasteless shrimp pasta.... Do yourself a favor and go out for good seafood like we should have done!

Worst. Pub. Ever. 1. The glasses are dirty. They are not well washed. 2. My bottle was skunked. 3. The food is absolutely unpalatable. Literally Denny's or taco bells is better Save yourself! Run!

John Martin's was a nice find on a horrible night, I had just worked 15 hours straight with no lunch, and needed some food. The Guinness was an excellent choice, perfect pour. I had some enormous steak which was very good, with a baked potato. Best meal I could have imagined for that day. It's an Irish Pub. No pretense. Service at the bar would have been seen as poor by some; it was not fast, but the bartender was personable and talked with everyone, which is refreshing.

  • Chlo L.

Im sure their other stuff might be good, but we called and were put on hold for 15 min before we came in. When we got here, we got 2 orders of fish and chips. Midnight munchies and disappointed. One of the 2 fish fillets we got was undercooked and overpriced. Not even close to what we were craving :(

Went to John Martin's for an afternoon of revelry for St. Patrick's Day 2015.....to be expected, it was really crowded, but the bartending staff was working furiously to get the orders out. I thought the Irish Car Bombs were a tad pricey, but it IS the Gables. As we stood waiting for a table, an attentive server named Micah assisted us. He found us a corner table at the bar, and quickly fetched 2 stools. An aspiring actor, Micah showed a formidable knowledge of the different ales and drinks offered. He amused and entertained us in spite of the madhouse atmosphere... Our order of Shepherd's Pie and corned beef and cabbage were delivered promptly, and, while not out of this world, was just really good "comfort food" Any future visits to the Miracle Mile area of the Gables will warrant a return visit to John Martin's..

I like a good Irish pub but John martins isn't one. It's fine for a beer at the bar but as a dining experience it is terrible. Rude staff. Slow service. Sub par food. We came for a group luncheon and it was 90 minutes before any food arrived. Even the Cesar salads! All the food was cold - burger. Fish and chips. We had to go downstairs and get our own drinks. I had a birthday party here a few years ago which was a buffet and the good was terrible. Fortunately we kept drinking so we forgot about the food and yelp wasn't around then!

Great place with great, affordable food and good beer. I can't imagine what happened to those folks who gave low ratings: the atmosphere is casual but welcoming. We had great food: some fish and a chicken pot pie to die for. Got the last one of those. A chocolate dessert almost paralyzed my wife with delight. It didn't hurt that the taped music was at a conversation-encouraging level and included a lot of Pink Floyd.

You might be asking yourself, "Isn't this an Irish restaurant?" Well, indeed it is! But I have to tell you their burger is pretty top of the line. Their freshly ground Sirloin Burger isn't all that fancy - it comes with LTO, a pickle and French fries, but it's delicious. And, by the way, their fries are seasoned to perfection and perfectly crunchy. Don't know if you are into that.

They close early and turn business down. That's pretty sucky. Hours are when they feel like it I guess? I don't think the owners would be thrilled. They might get some of their beer sponsorship taken away for doing that stuff!

they have a legit selection of beers on draft. The fish and chips was very good, overall a very laid back pub with an authentic Irish feel. The calamari was too salty but the service was good.

Relaxing pub atmosphere. I had the gaelic steak with house fries. Being a steak connoisseur, I can only give the steak a 3 out of 10. (Ordered med rare, came out medium) House Fries 7 out of 10. The portions were fair, yet a bit pricey for the lack of quality on the steak. The lack of quality in the food might be attributed to a menu that is a little big for this place. My waiter did a good job yet he never told me his name!

I had stopped going to this restaurant YEARS ago, as the service and food had become terrible. The staff attitude was always terrible and the place shows its age. Last week, my great friend John, the local Irish guru, insisted we go, assuring us that a new manager had changed things up. He was right. Staff was friendly. The Bar food was GREAT and a a GREAT. The brie with fruit was first class and a really big offering for $12. Plenty of crisp fresh fruit and big serving of really good brie. They are trying to update the focus by bringing in DJ's an such and the night we went, a much younger crowd was starting to come back. Things look good for JM. If the owners let the knew manager run it without much interference, this place will start filling up again quickly.

We went on St Pattie's Day--so yeah, we could have picked a better day. My darling friend, Rendy-poo says their steaks are divine and we should try it again. Also the buffalo burger. We'll see if we ever make it there again. We were seated right away (by a fluke, I'm sure) and seated in a room that looked and felt like the conference room in a hotel. Kids were playing on the floor--almost no one could get a refill on spirits without running someone down. Unfortunately the food matched. Apparently, if you go on any other day of the year--it's great. So, I suggest that if you go--you go then. And try a steak?

The two stars are entirely for the guys who put on and participate in Sunday open mike night. They do a great job. The bar is awful. First, I have never had a bartender so disinterested in earning a tip. He is there all the time and consistently terrible service. The place was empty and we had to repeatedly flag him down to get a drink or the bill. The wine options are horrible. It is hard to mess up a basic vodka soda, but I had to ask for a lime. I meant to write this review a while ago- after I went in to watch some of the World Cup and they didn't have the game on!

The place seemed nice if they would have attended us, we waited patiently while servers passed by and no one offered us even water or anything. As we walked out not even the front desk asked if everything was ok or why we were leaving.

I know you don't go to an irish bar to order italian food. I ordered the chicken milanese. It was over breaded and over cooked. The flavor was average and the edges were charred. The linguini had decent texture but lacked any flavor. The icing on the cake was the service. I mean, the dude was friendly but I never saw him. It took a while to order and another while to get our bill. I would recommend this place for drinks. Not for food tho.

    (2)

Food not the best, especially when you consider the restaurants around the area but let's be honest, who goes to an Irish bar for the food? I do like the service staff as they are friendly and attentive.

I went here on my Birthday after having dinner at nearby Seasons 52. We thought we would have a nice time at a bar. It was dead and it defintely attracts an older crowd. No offense, I just prefer not to be in a place where I might run into my Mom or one of her friends! Anyways, the real reason this place gets 3 stars is because the drinks were terrible. I decided to throw it back and get a Long Island Iced Tea..It almost made me vomit. My friend had an apple martini. She took one sip and could not finish it. I should've gone with a beer.

the only reason I am giving John Martin's three stars is because their masher and bangs is great. I was very disappointed today when I went to John Martin's. I have bee there in several occasions and generally loved this restaurant however today something different happened. It was happy hour. My son and I generally have a beer a piece because neither one of us is a heavy drinker. Upon arriving we were told that it was happy hour. I sad okay two for one give us two Smithicks and we'll each have one. We were told no the way it works is each of you will get two. A ridiculous concept for those people who choose not to have two beers. As the matter of fact we go to Flemings across the street many times and have one beer a piece at a two for one, no problem there. Well nevertheless against my better judgment we had the beer, I said I choose not to have the second beer, my son did have his second which we split. When I got my check I ended up paying $18 for 4 beers even though I did not have the second beer. Some two for one deal. It's actually better to go there at regular time and have one beer for $4.50. Never again John Martin's you just blew two good customers because now not even at St Patrick's day I will go to Harrisons or Duffy's instead. BTW readers go to Flemings for Happy Hour where you can get two for one blue moons and share the wealth!!!! and BTW a great HAMBURGER FOR MUCH LESS.

Following my visit here, I called the owner who reflected the exact service by its manager and server---disrespectful and should not be in the hospitality and dining service. A server (who wasn't even ours) muttered and used cursed words as she walked by my party and the manager told us to "pay and leave." This was followed up with a discussion to the owner after the experience and needless to say, his servers and management reflected his leadership. This was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had and to have this place on Miracle Mile is ridiculous. I have never written a review because I enjoy Yelp to help me decide where to eat but this horrible place was certainly an exception to the rule.

I don't know why this place has only three stars. It's a bar first. Yeah the food is not five stars, but they do have some tasty bar food. I love the tuna melt, even though it's not on the menu they will prepare it for you. It's open face and large enough to share.

An Irish Pub on Miracle Mile definitely has it's plus and minuses. On the one hand, it's a "upscale" dive-bar that's a nicely decorated with a very pleasant staff. The downside of this place is a very limited selection of beer and food. If Irish isn't your thing, you're going to have a tough time with the menu. My preferred choice is Harps beer pint and some stew and potato soup. By far it was awesome! But, prepare to pay Gables pricing (ouch). Best place to go for St. Patty's day!

Most of the food is so heavy, the interior is old smelling and dirty, the service is okay, but the owner, a large man, was pretty drunk when I saw him and he was very rude to an employee I noticed working that night. The other manager was outside smoking with friends, so it seemed poorly run being that I had to wait 15 minutes for a bill because the manager was sitting a table away with his friends and was too "busy" to fix my check sooner. After enjoying the restaurant for a while, I have since learned from going in regularly, how it really is. Since the incident with the drunk owner and his rudeness to his employee, I have stopped going unless for takeout when I'm hungover. They do have good burgers, I'll give them that.

I have been a customer for years and frequent John Martins often...I feel very comfortable with the friendly service. It's reminds me of "Cheers" where everybody knows your name. The food has never disappointed! The bartenders are always friendly and accommodating. Their prices are very reasonable for the area. Great local bar to watch a game or listen to music....fun!

I come here for the corned beef and cabbage. Great pub to meet and have a few drinks and grab some grub. Pretty large venue do they can accommodate large groups easily. Reasonably priced drinks considering the location. There are usually some sort of event taking place through out the week. Trivia night, karaoke, etc. Decent happy hour specials also.

The quintessential Irish pub in all of MIami. Cozy, welcoming and friendly. Check your pretentious attitude at the door....not allowed in here. The St. Patty's day block party they throw is one of the best parties in all of Miami.

The food was only so-so and way overpriced. However, the real downside to this restaurant was the service. It took us 45 minutes to order and then another hour to get our food. Then after we were finished, the waiter did not come for another hour. When we politely asked to get our check, a waitress (not even in charge of our table) complained about us very loudly and rudely. It was just a miserable, overpriced experience. Go anywhere else on Miracle Mile.

I have a bone to pick with this place. I came here on St. Patrick's Sunday to have a couple of pints before heading out to dinner. No, I didn't eat here because on the short time I was here, the stuff I saw passed around should not be called Irish food. My bone to pick is about the beer. This is supposed to be and Irish pub and as any Irish pub, serve Guinness. But if you going to serve Guinness, do it right. I have no doubt that in order for them to dispense large amounts of Guinness in a short period they have to water it down. The beer itself tastes water down. And I have seen true Guinness being poured, even at the Guinness brewery in Dublin. Pouring this black gold liquid is an art and it takes time. The beer itself, when in its natural state, does not allow you to pour quickly, you have to pour, seat, and then pour. Look it up. Guinness should be notify of the atrocity you are serving. I'll come back again, to check on the beer and the food, maybe I'll update this.

Overpriced drinks and mediocre food. I've been going to John Martin's for almost 20 years although I'm not a regular. I don't like the smell of the place and the food is average to below average quality at tourist prices. I just went to a party there on Saturday night and asked for a Cosmopolitan with Grey Goose. It was $13.50 without the tip. With a $2 tip I find $15.50 to be outrageous. The worst part is that they are below average on their bartending capabilities. I think another local establishment Foxe's might be worse, but the same drink is around $10. The other thing is, I drink only Grey Goose when I'm out and more than once I've had to ask them to redo the drink because I was sure they didn't use Grey Goose.

Funny....after returning to Miami after 10 years, but spending the other 30 years of my life in this Cosmopolis, I stopped in at John Martins with my Fiancé after having had dinner at Bangkok Bangkok but arriving at the Gables Art Cinema too early for the film. So we darted over a block to have a few beers at John Martins..... Earlier, we had been discussing Gables nightlife, and I ruminated that the Gables are great for restaurants, but always bored me in terms of bar scenes and nightlife. It's just stuffy and pretentious. No decent live music venues due to fascistic noise regulations (in a downtown....commercially zoned.....so weird...). ...and then John Martins highlights everything. It's just a boring Irish Pub. With boring beer choices. No microbrews on tap. Inoffensive Mandolin band inducing sleep. It's like a neighborhood Appleby's but they have Bass Ale and Smithwicks. Blah.

Not the best, not the worst happy hour in the Gables. Good news: John Martin's Happy Hours goes till 7pm. The drinks are half off, making most beers between 3 and 4 bucks. However, my gripe is with the food prices and the service. I order potato skins and for $9 I expected more than 4. The 4 potato skins were good, but the price was way too high- it was $2.25 each!! As for the service, it was SLOW. It took almost 30 minutes for our apps to be ready. Bottomline: Works in a pinch, especially after 6pm, but not my first choice for the Gables.

Talk about split personality. Part bar, part dining room straight out of a house in Ireland. The bar part is pretty bar like. Dark, high tables & bar stools, cramped stage. The dining room part is where I sat with a bunch of other YELPERS to enjoy the special menu for the BURGIES, The Burger Awards. So, I can't really comment on their food, since I ate from a special menu. But our waitress was great. And we were a large crowd on a busy night and she was still great. I liked it, and plan to go back to taste some of their regular food.

The food was pretty good. I got the daily special sandwich and it was tasty. Very standard though, nothing out of the ordinary. The chips were good, but they're still chips. I'll gladly eat chips at a bar, but I'd prefer something a bit more substantial with my dinner. The drinks were good. They served a darn good mojito and had good beers on tap. Problem though....its too expensive for what you get. My bar tab was way high. I guess its the area...but you throw a McDonalds down in Beverly Hills, its still a McDonalds and you still won't be happy paying more for the same food. Oh, and the live bad made it completely impossible to hear anything.

So, with my second trip to John Martin's, I have solidified it as a three-star in my mind. I made certain to stay away from the offensive items from my first trip and decided to try some new items while mixing in some of the items I previously enjoyed. We ordered the buffalo chicken and shrimp cocktail again since it was good last time. My comments remain the same; these items are still good. For our entrees, though, we tried two new items: -Corned beef and cabbage with potatoes -Turkey dinner with mashed potatoes, stuffing, and gravy I was not impressed with the corned beef. I never expect it to be be a highly seasoned dish. This dish is good because of the delicate balance between the true flavors of the corned beef and the cabbage and the few other items that different people add to the pot. The potatoes, cabbage and beef were near flavorless. The ingredients didn't even begin to inform each other. I will wait for St. Patrick's Day to come around and go to Cracker Barrell for my next meal consisting of corned beef and cabbage. Somehow that chain restaurant managed to get that delicate balance more correct than this Irish Pub. The turkey dinner was just not memorable. The turkey flavor was okay, but the pieces were slightly dry -- at least it was real turkey and not luncheon meat slices. The mashed potatoes were fresh and tasted fine while the stuffing was just not pleasant. For some reason the chefs fealt the need to put peppers and other items into the stuffing which created an unpleasant battle in my mouth. The flavors did NOT go together and the punctuation by that odd flavor was just an inappropriate idiosyncracy. John Martin, I believe you may be an appetizer and dessert bar. I don't know that I want to get another entree here.

Have been here several times. The draught beer is of your common garden variety, albeit high quality than most pubs but non the less, nothing unique found only here. The real star of this pub is the food. The steak and kidney pie was delicious and proved to be comfort food at its finest. The meatloaf was quite tasty, mashed potatoes very moist and seasoned nicely. Daily soups were very fresh and truly hit the spot, especially on a rainy day.

The main thing I have to say about John Martin's is this: only come if you plan on getting so drunk you won't care about their terrible service. If that's your plan, I can see how this place would be an awesome night out. Otherwise... not so much. Went there for a birthday dinner with a big group of people, and the service was terrible. They took fifty years to bring our drinks, another fifty years to bring out the bread, and let's not even talk about how long it took to bring out the main course. I could have cooked a 7 course meal in my kitchen, and it would have taken less time. Everyone's meals began to trickle out of the kitchen, and everyone knows that to be polite you wait 'til everyone is served before you start eating. Needless to say, half the table's food was cold when the other half's came out, and they brought me the wrong dish! Then I had to wait even longer and by the time my food came out everyone else was almost finished. UGH! I only gave this place 2 stars because the bread pudding i had for dessert was decent...and because the band played "Brown-eyed Girl".

Service at the bar totally SUCKED!! Bartenders ignorant. Not service oriented. Not attentive. And it wasn't busy. The TWO bartenders ( a guy & a girl) spent several minutes bickering with their backs to the bar and the patron. Who wants to listen to that!!!

I only come here because I do like the crowd that comes here and the live music on Sundays. But yeah the food is ok, and drinks are way over priced. The staff is friendly...ahhh is ok I guess.....

John Martin's is the place to be for Wednesday night karoake. Bring a big group and be willing to sing to sweet 80's tunes and you'll be treated like royalty by the staff. They typically make Wednesday ladies night also, and for $10 you get a wristband and can drink unlimited until 11, and they'll bring you 2 at a time if it's nearing the end of the time frame. I have to say I don't go too far out of my comfort zone when ordering here. I stick to my orginal order (Buffalo chicken sandwhich, potato fries) each time I come. The chicken patty is so huge that my boyfriend and I decided to split it during one Wednesday night singing fiasco. They gave us separate plates with two chicken patties, two buns and extra fries, for the price of one meal. AWESOME. I've also tried most of their appetizers and the french onion soup, which is a great choice also. They have a bunch of different Irish beers on tap, a traditional Irish atmosphere of dark wood and green colors (that is traditional, right?), and a cool wait staff. Definitely a good group or bar setting, probably not best if you want a quiet meal, unless you want to sit outside. The best parking is behind the restaurant (as in not the Miracle Mile side) and you can walk in through the back door.

For the record, I love John Martin's. Nice to find a 'semi-traditional' Irish pub in Coral Gables. I come here quite often for my roteract meetings, and I always end up staying until way after the meeting is over. One thing that really stands out is the bar-service. Great service (esp if Ley is your bartender). As far as table-service- I'm not too sure. I usually only come here to sit at the bar and drink, so I'm not too familiar with the food selection either. Anyone looking for a good ol' Irish pub in the Gables should definitely check this spot out!

Walked into (literally, they were at the DOOR) a live band on a random Friday night. The music was meh... the crowd was all well over 50... I wasn't quite in the right place. I have only been here for St.Patrick's Day in the past so maybe I was here at the wrong place or wrong time. I've heard great things off the menu so I'm sure next time I go it will either be 1. St.Patrick's Day, or 2. for lunch...

I work across the street from John Martin's so it's become one of my favorite lunch spots. I usually sit at the bar and I've always gotten great service from the bartenders there. As for the food, I've got 3 words for you. Monte Cristo Sandwich. This thing is a heart attack waiting to happen but it would be a sweet way to go. It's pretty much a ham and cheese sandwich pancake battered and deep fried, served with jelly. Mmmm, sweet sweet clogged arteries. Other highlights on the menu are the roast beef sandwich with Brie or the Shepard's pie. I've never had anything I didn't love, and I'm there all the time.

When I think of Irish pubs in Miami John Martin's located on Miracle Mile is one of the couple places that always come to mind. It has been around for years, which is rare seeing as how everything comes and goes in Miami. I go here every once in a while mostly as a ST. patties day spot. Parking may not be the best around happy hour time or even more ST. Patties day. When you walk in you'll notice it's pretty dark inside lots of rich wood. I like the feel of the place. To left is their full bar, pretty big scotch and beer selection. To the right is the dinning area. I've always been seated quickly and had great service. If you are in the Coral Gables business district then delivery is an option available to you! I really like that they deliver from monday through friday 11-3.30pm. The food isn't over the top amazing for the price but I think everyone should be pleased. They offer good brunch, The sandwiches are all good, (I enjoy the monte cristo sandwich because not many places offer that unhealthy delight. It's turkey, ham, swiss and american cheese on fried white bread with powdered sugar and a berry sauce yum) The salads and burgers are okay. The entrees not very extensive the fish and chips and corn beef and cabbage are pretty good and then there's not much for dessert. Soda bread is the best here! Although I've never been during the time it's offered John Martin's has a karaoke, team trivia and live music night.

Great place to go at night for drinks. Love the atmosphere, and love that from time to time they have locals perform. The only reason I am giving it an a-ok was because it was very hard for us to get drinks on a saturday night (took about half hour to get the bartenders attention). Besides that, its a cool bar.

Irish done upscale. Take the "Miracle mile" area and throw in an Irish pub. Thats John Martins. Typical Coral Gables crowd so I was expecting high prices and a version of Irish dishes. I was pleasantly surprised. Food was pretty damned good and the prices were decent. My only issues were the placement of the band (Right by the door as you walk in) and the noise level. If your just going out for a nice quiet dinner, get there before the band starts. Even in the enclosed dining room, we had to shout in each others ears. Even still, I'll be back.

On my quest to find some good Fish n Chips I did find some here. They were good! The chips were really chips not french fries (If I have to explain the difference you have NEVER had real British chips, so I won't even bother trying). The fish was absolutely flaky inside its crust. The beauty of this dish was that the crust was crispy and was not an oil sponge .. Kudos. I also had some irish potato soup.. yummy. No cream in it - AS IT SHOULD BE! Yes, the Guinness was overpriced. The decor, quite cute. The service was ok.. not bad.. not great. I am pretty picky about my Irish Grub, if I am in the Gables and need a fix, sure I will come here, but if I am going to leave my house for Irish fare, this would not be my first choice. I would head out to the Irish Times.

I love John Martin's. The service is good every day except for St. Patrick's Day, when every Irish bar and restaurant is full beyond capacity and there simply aren't enough waiters or bartenders in the city to take care of everyone. The atmosphere is cool and the food is good. Try the fish and chips and the French onion soup- they're my favorite here. The drinks are always good, too. I've got to agree with the other reviewers, $7 for a Guinness is a little pricey, but it's Coral Gables.

Went last Saturday night at 10pm. The bar was empty so we sat in the middle of the bar. Our female bartender looked liked she just woke up and had not washed her hair in days. No makeup, sloppy looking and depressed. I actually saw her drop a glass she was going to chill, she dropped it onto the dirty black mat in her station, pick it up and place the now contaminated glass in a glass chiller. Her service was slow and not friendly. Will never go there again.

Feeling a little Irish, I decided to celebrate my first ever St Patty's Day this year at no other than John Martin's! At a friends suggestion, I ditched the crowded local Gables block party and headed to this bar. I definitely wasn't disappointed, on this, most Irish of days! The waiter's immediately got us started with Irish Car Bombs and even helped us relocate when our table was no longer big enough for our party. The waiters provided great service and made sure we were having a great time as the night got longer and hazier. The atmosphere is somewhat loud and rowdy- just what the doctor ordered if you are searching for your slightly green Irish side!

St Pattys Day sucked. $10 dollar cover to get put on a waiting list for a table to spend more money on food, nice. Went outside to their food trailer and this "Irish" restaurant had the nerve to serve COLD as in prepared the day before and refrigerated COLD corned beef sandwhiches. No way to heat them up and the server telling me they are suppossed to be served cold...Don't think so.

I came here the weekend that just passed. Apparently there was some kind of pub crawl event, I don't even know what the heck that means but I know it's half off liquors. Speaking of that apparently you're suppose to (from what I'm told) to pay $20 somewhere and you get a wrist band and pay half off all the bars. Anyways getting back to my review so yea I came here with a couple of friends, I really enjoyed how the bar was decked out, it looked very stylish in my opinion like an actual pub in my point of view. Also the type of crowd that was there was also good, the age is around 21-30 which is decent, and plus the majority of the crowd are all college / university students which is another plus. Sometimes it's good to go to places where you can actually talk to intelligence young people rather than idiots. Another thing which was odd was the ratio of women to men. There were a lot MORE women than men which was pretty funny, haven't seen that in awhile. The drinks like I said there were on specials, but the prices where amazing. I ordered 2 vodka tonics and came out to about $7.00 in total for them both. The only thing that was a bothersome was the wait to get a drink plus it was crowded as hell so it became a little bit hot. Other than that awesome place! Recommend it.

I came for the live (Irish) music -- great stuff. It's a cute place but it's not a wow-er. I had a chicken sandwich with chips. You can't really screw up a chicken breast sandwich and the chips were yummmmmmy. But again, the food wasn't outstanding. We were there pretty late at night, not a lot of tables occupied and still the service was unbearably slow. We had to ask for our waiter 2 times and we had like 5 different waiters/bussers. It was unorganized and weird and I was not a huge fan. This place is a "meh" -- I would head to Irish Times if I'm really need a good Irish (and good service) fix!

So, I haven't been to that many Irish places in Miami yet, but this one impressed me. I have to admit that I did not eat anything, so I can't vouch for their chef, but the atmosphere was nice and the drinks were good. Here is the best part: They had live Irish music, with a guy playing the bagpipes and that Irish flute (insert correct name here). The decorations were also a big hit with me, it felt cozy and friendly, I wouldn't mind returning. The one downer and it's a big one... is the service. Our waiters too forever and we seemed to have 2 or 3 different ones who gave a little bit of attitude, I wasn't pleased. Maybe it's because we had a big party. Either way, the place was nowhere near packed and they would have been able to handle it if they were a little more organized.

I had been to this restaurant about 5-6 years ago and it was delicious. So I decided to go there with about 5 coworkers for lunch. All started off well until it took over an hour and a half for us to get our lunch and there was only about 3-4 tables seated in the restaurant. Mind you, everyone ordered very simple things like soups, salads, and sandwiches. Being a patient bunch, we assumed the waitress was new or things might have gotten backed up in the kitchen. We come to realize that 3 out of the 5 orders were completely wrong, including my own. Moreover, we noticed the sandwiches we ordered were toasted yet cold, meaning they had been done way before and were just left sitting to be served easily for about 30 minutes. My order was the worst! It was the completely wrong sandwich and when I asked the waitress to please fix it I waited for over 10 minutes and the waitress still had not come out with it. I got so frustrated that I walked down the block to Panera and just bought a soup and a sad which and brought it back to John Martin's. I will never eat there again. Thumbs down on service!

Ok, this could go on a list of places I've walked by a hundred times and never been in, until tonight. I showed up for the Burgies, had a couple of beers and some pretty decent food. My friend and I shared some french fries and the sliders that were on the menu for the event. Everything was pretty tasty, but nothing struck me as memorable. Our waitress was attentive, polite and nice. I know I could probably walk in here again and eat some decent food, but I'm not itching to run back in just yet.

A little far north for us, but it fills our need for a good Irish Pub. Mussels and brie platter hit the spot after shopping in the big city. Watched the end of a great Premier League game with some ex-pats. Then some kid asked if they would put the Masters on the screen. Lucky for him the small screen to the side was showing that match.

I went here during Carnival on the Mile, I had been here years before but just wanted to sit down somewhere and have a beer. They had a little live band in the corner which was alright. All the beers here were $7 which I thought was pretty insane, i guess when you enter coral gables city limits the price of everything jumps 20%. It's always an older crowd the times I have been here, real big on the 30-40 year olds. I dont know.... I would of given three stars but the prices just threw me off.

I wish that Yelp had a more specific star system, where you could rate service, food, and ambience separately. I would give the service here 2 or 3 stars. Our waitress was nice and friendly, and the food came quickly. And, we were seated fast. But those are the only nice things I can say about the place. Here is the problem, I love Irish food, music, and culture. So, I am down in the Gables, and decided I wanted something different from the same old Italian or nouveau American stuff that everyone seems to serve in Miami. We had been to John Martins before, but it has been a really long time and it was usually for special events. This was the first time we had just strolled by casually. We went in and there is this horrendous rock band playing ancient lame rock songs incredibly loud. We had the hostess seat us in the back, but we could still barely hear each other. I was really looking forward to some Irish music, but no such luck. We look at the menu and there are like 4 traditional Irish dishes and a whole bunch of standard American and Italian fare. Great. So, I got the shepherd's pie and my hottie got the the corned beef and cabbage. Not going into detail, but the pie tasted like it came out of the can and the corned beef was the blandest stuff I have ever tasted. Plus, there was some weird cream sauce on the beef. We were VERY disappointed. If I could break it down, I would give the service 2 stars, the food zero stars, and the ambience/entertainment negative one star. Usually I am nicer than this, but I was really pissed off. Why bother calling yourself an Irish restaurant if you are really not? Just say you are nouveau American with some Irish knick-knacks on the wall.

Their food is absolutely DELICIOUS. The service isn't that great, and the drinks tend to be hit or miss depending on the bartender, but you really can't go wrong with their menu. Their chips are homemade and delicious, and their ingredients taste fresh. They also tend to put up unique specials and tasty twists on common dishes. I highly recommend lunch, dinner, or brunch here!

Came here on a Saturday night for dinner. We didn't have a wait but I think we were fairly early. We had an Irish server which I was surprised at but I liked his accent. :) Which was good because he didn't stop by the table as much as we'd like. He definitely was gone for large chunks of time. It didn't seem like he was overwhelmed with tables but we could have been wrong. We had the brie appetizer which was quite yummy and some irish beers. My boyfriend got the stew which was very good but heavy. It would have been awesome to have when it was cold out. I had the roast beef sandwich which was also quite good and it came with homemade potato chips. After dinner we sat at the bar and had a couple drinks. The bartender was quite attentive. We ordered a half and half (Guiness & Harp) but she did a black and tan (Guiness & Stella) accidentally. She got us the right drinks but ended up giving us the other one for free. A couple dissapointing things for an irish pub: My boyfriend ordered an irish whiskey that apparently is a step or two up from Jameson and they didn't have it. They also had a small band that outside was advertised as irish music. They played maybe 4 or 5 irish songs over the 2-3 hours we were there.

I came here for a Charity Event about a year ago and have been back a few times since then. I would come more often but once I'm on the mile there are so many different choices that I sometimes forget about this place! I always enjoy myself when I come here, its your typical pub in my opinion. Good food at decent prices. Sometimes on a packed night its a little difficult to get the attention of the bar tenders but that's about the only complaint I have of this place. It's a good time.

Last night we ate at John Martins because I had bought a deal online. Bleh. I had high expectations but it was not good at all. The potato soup was a weird shiny color and had the consistency of biting into a raw potato. They served it with stale crackers. We got a side salad which was disgusting as it was warm and had a weird taste to it. I had to eat some of my friend's fish and chips which were ok, but we were afraid we would be charged a $3 sharing charge which was noted in the menu. I would not recommend this place for food at all.

Went to John Martin's Friday night pre-theater. We were sitting in the small, semi formal restaurant part of the place. I made the big mistake of thinking that I could order like I was in a regular restaurant and thinking that they would take pride in preparing food that was sort of Irish. Boy was I wrong. First, a word on the service. Brain damaged. (Sorry, two words.) I ordered grilled salmon. After an interminable wait for the food, I got a dessicated (I asked for rare) piece of salmon that looked like it was kicked around the kitchen for a while before it was put on my plate. The mashed potatoes, which were so dry that I doubt that any butter, cream or milk ever made their acquaintance, were slapped across the plate in a disgusting pile and the vegetables were so overcooked they were disintegrating thru the tines of my fork. And, to top it off, everything was cold. I asked for a new plate and the second time it was a lot more respectable but by this time I had to wolf down my food to make the show across the street, and this is after arriving one and a half hours before the show started. There was no time for dessert, coffee, etc. Not that we would have ordered it. I would say stick to the pub grub, but the onion rings that one of my dining companions had were so greasy that I do not believe there were any onions or batter in them at all. It was a new method of grease delivery camouflaged to look like onion rings.

John Martins is awesome! What's with this "Closed Now" designation at the top of the page? They're closed on Christmas Day....that's it. It's an Irish pub run by two Irish guys and it's exactly like a pub run by two Irish guys is is supposed to be. The only way this place could be more authentic is if St. Patrick was the maitre'd and John F. Kennedy was tending bar.

Came to this place for the first time for the Burgies. We found our fellow yelpers quickly and sat down to view the special menu they had. Everything was pretty expensive and the appetizers didn't really look appealing so we decided to go straight for the burgers. I had the Mediterranean burger, which was a lamb burger with grilled red onion and pepper and feta cheese. THAT WAS GOOD!!! Excellent burger! And the fries were DELISH!!! My bfs burger wasn't that great. And I heard other yelpers who weren't too pleased with their entrees/appetizers. The service was not the best but they were packed full that night and the waiters/waitresses looked like they were running around chickens without heads. So, all in all, I would come back to this place and give it another try.

Had dinner here last night and it was good. Not overwhelmingly great, but we got fast service and good beer. Reminds me of the irish pubs on the east coast as they had a decent little band playing live. I had the fish and chips and it was pretty good. One big piece of fish surrounded by chips. It was great.

Rolled into this place to get a good stiff drink. Three hours, one order of nachos and soda bread, many drinks and two broken glasses later we were in love. 6 boys from Chicago had found a place to call home for an evening. Our server Jessica was attentive and the manager didn't kick us out when one of us got a touch too inebriated. The nachos weren't even on the menu, they worked them up for us special, and brought out the soda bread to soak up a ridiculous amount of jack and cokes.

I too went here for the Burgies. I sat at the bar and had a good time. The bartender was very friendly and very attentive. And, oh yeah, she was a gorgeous blonde, which certainly doesn't hurt the review. Their beer selection is good, not great for what could come from an Irish pub. Though I do very much enjoy Harp, which they had on draft. I had a lamb burger with potato wedges. Though they were part of the Burgies menu, both are on the regular menu as well, so I feel confident reviewing their food. The lamb burger was tasty but definitely a bit too well down. Yes, yes, I know that lamb isn't going to be served cold and bloody. But a little less time on the grill would have left it juicy enough for my taste. As for the potato wedges...Meh. They were nothing special. They tasted like the seasoned fries that Miami Subs used to serve back in the day; I was never really a big fan. But the menu seemed complex and I look forward to trying more things there. Most importantly, walking into John Martin's just "felt right." Dark like a pub should be. Enough people around to give it the right feel but not too many to feel crowded. If I were looking for a place to go have a beer and a burger, John Martins would be a good bet.

I went to John Martin's because my friend's husband was playing that night (traditional Irish band). I was surprised. I had a mojito and my husband a Guinness. I ordered one of my favorite dishes: Fish and Chips. The plate was humongous! The fish was really fresh and flaky and the tartar sauce was yummy! The ambiance is really nice. That night we had live music, so it was awesome.

Visited this restaurant for my friends bday party. I liked the decor. We were a large party so it took awhile for the waitress to get our orders, but the food tasted ok. The band was quite loud making it hard to have a real conversation. It didn't really stand out for me but I cannot complain about the food or the service; just not my type of place.

I/we LOVE John Martins!!!!! We discovered this place soon after moving to Miami in 1979. We have been through dates, family dinners-kids, friends and in-laws. I just had a significant birthday and my girls, knowing how much I love it, made us reservations and arranged champagne and payment as my gift. As we were sitting down who came in but my daughter with a bouquet of flowers, she'd driven in from Naples. We have nothing but wonderful memories about food, service, potato soup,Guiness and Bailey's ice cream. Our daughters are Jamison and Bailey. Think John Martins had anything to do with it?

My maragaritas were the bomb!!! Great!! I mean super duper great! The bartender was quirky but her drinks were excellent so after a few she was just fine. The baked brie was pretty damn good too.

So this was my third time here. I came for drinks with a friend of mine. We sat at the bar. The service could have a been a bit better. We ordered our drinks but never saw our bartender again. We had to ask another bartender for our check.

This place has gone downhill big time - they seem to be trying to appeal to a different demographic than before. I've been going here occasionally for 20 years and have noticed a precipitous decline in the atmosphere and bar service the last few times that I've visited. The bartenders can be very slow, inattentive, mistake-prone and unprofessional, even when it's not particularly busy - they act as though they're more interested in trying to look "cool" and socializing than with serving the customers. The bar itself as well as the plates and utensils always seem to be sticky and unclean, and the place just seems unnecessarily grimy overall. The liquor and beer selections appear to have gotten smaller and more generic over time, although they do have a decent selection of whiskeys. The TV's over the bar didn't used to be there, and it was actually better when there was only one set down at the end of the bar in terms of it being conducive to socializing. They seem to be on their way to becoming more of a sort of downmarket college-esque sports bar these days. The food is usually good - the Irish breakfast rocks - but, since you can get a proper pour of Guinness at several places around town these days, many of them with a better selection of food and drink and more professional atmosphere, there is currently little reason to visit here.

I'm middle of the road on John Martin's. I like the atmosphere of the place, when there is almost no one in there it would be a nice place to take a date. However I'll agree that the service could have been better. The lady comes out and she seems very nice and friendly. She takes our order. I get a burger, the menu says it comes with onions, I ask her to hold the onions, I get the burger, and sure enough there are onions. It may seem small, but these weren't the kind of onions you could take off the burger, they were sliced, they were under the cheese and there were ALOT of them. So basically my burger is screwed over, otherwise it would have been decent. The fries were horrible. They were seasoned, and I mean HEAVILY seasoned. I couldn't finish them, nor could my friend finish her's. Overall I was disappointed.

No good fish and chips here. The decor certainly has the pub feel, the live music was appropriate , have to take issue with the over priced Guinness the digs certainly don't support the overcharge and the food is marginal at best. The waiter sort of forgot about us so the service took forever. Can't say that its fair to review this place based on this one experience but hey !! A good establishment is consistently good - this one to me is a must skip.

I'm not really a fan of Irish pubs becuase they are so dark and the food and drinks are so heavy. This one is no exception. You just gotta be in the mood for that kind of thing I guess. But the crowd is cool during happy hour.

Many times I've gone to John Martin's for a drink at night but decided to check it out for a quick bite for lunch with a friend. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered a simple grilled chicken sandwich on whole wheat. My friend ordered the fish of the day with couscous and I must say both meals were very good. The fish was a little bit better, but the thing I gave most credit to was the service. I started off at the bar and later moved to a table. Both the bartender and the waiter were on point. I was extremely pleased with the attentiveness by both parties. I hope that the service is always as good, but in terms of first impressions they were awesome. I'd definitely revisit.

I've been to John Martin's tons of times...and every time I go it's a decent time...nothing that really wow's me but then again nothing that really disappoints me. My most recent encounter with John Martin's followed the exact same pattern. Service was decent, beer was cold, food was ok. I had the Big Fish sandwich which sounded so much better on the menu than it really was. It was good but nothing out of this world...I think it could have used some kind of sauce or marinade and it would have been much better.

We were fortunate enough to live within walking distance of John Martin's. It's a great, much needed change from the usual bars in the area. The food, the staff, and the delicious Magner's on ice will keep you coming back for more. The Ruben is one of the best I've ever had. In fact, I still think about that sandwich... There's really no downside to this bar, if you enjoy Irish Pubs.

I've always loved John Martins! Not every day you can go into a bar and have a drink with one of the owners. Martin or John are there just about very day. Hell, my first legal drink was in this very Pub. It's a place that will always be in Coral Gables it's apart of the gables, unlike the other dozen or so places that have opened there doors near john martins and closed weeks or months later. John Martins is a must do if your in miami. My only beef is that they don't play enough irish music!

I have been getting slanted on their vodka tonics during my lunch hour about once a month for almost a year now, they are so delicious. I raged at their St. Patty's day bash with my bosses. Try the grilled butterflied shrimp with that buttery sauce. Your hands will get extremely messy peeling the sweet shrimp carcass out of it's shell but it is so gd worth it. Ask for my girl Luly and tip her well or I will fight you.

I've always been wanting to try this place, and it's so freaking close to my house.... So after a beer at the CG Blue's Festival - for another review... We were all a bit hungry and wanting another beer. Sure CG lacks kid-friendly restaurants... so we decided to dine outside on the sidewalk were the entertainment would be high and the mess would be low. Bonus points for kids menu - HUGE portion for kids chicken tenders. It seriously could have fed us all. Negative points for only having Guiness and Smithwicks on tap. boo hiss. That's it? I've just been spoiled by Fado's and THIS is what you are offering me? I understand that St. Patty's day just passed... but come on. Smithwicks it is. The soups sounded good and they really were - My hubbie opted for French onion. Standard yumminess. And I had the Irish Potato Soup - Good - ummm fake bacon bits, really? The service outside was decent - but while we were waiting for the kid's food - as we ordered that in advance - our waitress walked out of the restaurant and started to walk across the street - I yelled to her "Did you quit?" and she turned back and laughed - no I'm just going to pick up my food. I was a little perturbed by this because my little natives were already restless. She did return 5 minutes later, and then a few minutes after that - brought out our food. Hmmmm. Whatever. I'd probably go back - just because I'd like to see the inside of the place - but just for a beer and maybe some oysters as they had a pretty decent 'special' menu and oysters were only $1 each :)

Is this place a bad restaurant or a decent British pub? The answer is yes. If you find yourself on Miracle Mile, stop in for a pint, but go elsewhere to eat.

I actually would have given this place a 2 1/2 star rating. I guess I just don't get their food/ambience thing as I didn't like either. The bar area had some talentless dude singing his heart out...off key...and drowned out our conversation. The food, IMO, is bland rather than actually bad. The service was fine and we had no complaints on that account. The most interesting part was standing next to Alonso Mourning at the valet stand afterwards. You might say he's a wee bit tall. Anyhow, I have no want to return to this particular restaurant. Sorry.

So I finally went to John Martin's after time after time driving by it and I'm happy to say I'm glad I did. My friend and I wanted to grab a bite and drink around 10ish on a Wednesday night. After taking him to the over hyped and packed Yard House, and showing him it's worth the wait, we went to Miracle Mile to see if we can find a quieter place. John Martin's on Wednesday night is College night with drink and food specials till 2:30am. I grabbed a delicious Chicken Parmesan sandwich and my friend grabbed a 12' Pizza for a measly $7 each with college ID. Wednesday is also Karaoke night if you are so intrigued. Throughout the summer they have $5 drink specials and I suggest you try the Peach Mojito. The place is lovely inside and I was able to catch the Marlins game. The place is counting down till the Dolphin's first regular season so this looks like a nice place to drink and watch the game.

3 stars... because an irish car bomb is a beer cocktail made with guinness, baileys and irish whiskey... not at john martins ... they skip the irish whiskey here... not cool. the bar is cool looking and the pints look beautiful but this no whiskey irish car bomb situation is a no-no!

John Martin's ruined St Patrick's Day for hundred of customers yesterday! The pub organized a street fair, selling tickets that you could exchange for drinks and food at some stands (8 tickets= 1 beer). The ticket booth was still selling tickets when beers ran out. We all went back to the ticket booth, but the two employees got escorted by the police with the safe full of our cash. We then proceeded to go to the actual pub, thinking that there they will give us the beers we had already paid for. but they asked us to pay $10 cover charge to get in. Many people stand there, upset and complaining, but the manager of the pub did not even bother to come talk to us. After twenty minutes of wait outside, we were finally told that we could exchange 10 tickets for an entrance to the pub! This place is a complete SCAM and I will never go back there. I hope all the customers who got stolen from this establishment yesterday will do the same. JOHN MARTIN'S SHOULD BE ASHAMED.

i've been twice. neither time i ate. both times i got sloshed sitting at the bar with a friendly bartender and a friendly stranger talking my ear off waiting for friends & dinner reservations. i actually think the second time i subconsciously came to the gables early hoping for a similar experience. nonetheless, had a good time!

My favorite place in the Gables. Staff is great, food is good, beer is good. They have live music, great place just to hang out for a bit and enjoy some conversation, watch a band play, or catch a game with a few friends. John Martins is one of those really rare gems in Miami, considering there are such few Irish Pubs out there. My only issue and I know its stupid, is that they have this little section, that appears to resemble a fine dining area. This is a pub, get rid of that, and put more wooden tables in and open the area up so more people can watch the bands play. Great place though.

  • Q Q.

Seven dollars? Really? Seven f'ing dollars for a Guinness??? That is almost as outrageous as the live band was atrocious... the last thing I ever want to listen to live, especially when I just got ripped seven bucks for a Guinness, is a band that medlies "La Bamba" with "Twist and Shout," and "I'm a Believer" with "Wipeout." If that's what I wanted to listen to, ever, I'd just wait until my father invited me to his office's annual christmas party. Seriously. I'm giving this place two stars instead of one because I laughed my ass off at how lame this band was and how drunk the crowd was required to be in order to think this band was slamming (though to tell the truth there was no applause between songs). When they started to play the wrong notes to "Purple Haze" though, the laughter faded and my stomache began to churn as I remembered all the other sick sad reasons I had to leave this city and why I can never return (to live that is). I tried my hardest to wait until they were done so I could yell "YOU SUCK!" but it was intolerable, and I was unfortunately aware that they had not heard me as I tried to yell at them on my way out. I almost even couldn't finish my beer they were so awful. Just a bad combo between too expensive a beer and too sucky a band. If I ever go back here, and I'm not saying I won't, (mostly because it's close to my mom's house), I will have to put something in my own drink and date-rape myself in order to feel I got a memorable experience at this place.
